Tabu Shabu, an authentic Japanese shabu-shabu restaurant, is now open at The Square at Bressi Ranch, an 87,000-square-foot neighborhood center in Carlsbad developed by Shea Properties.

Translating to “swish-swish” in Japanese, shabu-shabu is a preparation of food where diners cook a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables in steaming hot broth then eat it with an array of sauces. Tabu Shabu offers four broth bases, carefully selected meats and seafood from all over the U.S. and world, locally sourced produce, and homemade sauces with freshly ground sesame seeds. The restaurant will also serve a concise list of Japanese starters, sides and desserts, as well as a menu of beer, wine, and sake.

“The buzz around the opening of Tabu Shabu at The Square has been great,”  said Kiril McKee, senior vice president of retail leasing at Shea Properties. “It’s a fun and delicious dining experience that complements the diverse roster of dining options available to Bressi residents and the surrounding Carlsbad community.”

The Orange County-based Japanese hot pot restaurant was founded in 2012 by restaurateur Jeff Chon and currently has seven locations throughout Southern California, including a location in North Park.

Tabu Shabu, located at 2674 Gateway Road, Suite 190, joins the growing roster of tenants currently open at The Square, including anchors BevMo, CVS Pharmacy and Sprouts, as well as Ebullition Brew Works & Gastronomy and Giaola Italian Kitchen, Bantam’s Roost, Bird Rock Coffee Roaster, Casero Taqueria, Mendocino Farms, Panini Kabob Grill, Richard Walker’s Pancake House, Wood Ranch BBQ, F45 Training, Yoga Six, KBS Golf Experience and more.
